The Andree Award, named in honor of Mu Alpha Theta founders Richard and Josephine Andree, is awarded to deserving students interested in becoming mathematics teachers. One high school senior member and one former or current member now in college are selected for this award every year. Each Andree Award winner receives $2,500 as a cash prize or college scholarship money.
How To Apply
Each chapter may submit one high school senior and one college nomination per year. The nominee need not attend the national convention to be considered. The sponsor of the chapter will determine how the chapter's nominees are selected. The application form should be submitted with the following:
- An essay titled "Why I Want to be a Mathematics Teacher".
- Three recommendation letters. For the high school award, a nominee should have one letter from his or her Mu Alpha Theta chapter sponsor and the other two by individuals of the nominee's choice (no relatives). For the college award, a nominee should have one letter from a college professor and the other two by individuals of the nominee's choice (no relatives). These letters must verify the nominee's interest in teaching mathematics.
- Official high school transcript. If the nominee is a current college student, an official transcript of collegiate grades should be submitted in addition to high school records.
